Stop 405 Toll Lanes
When Orange County voters approved the Measure M sales tax increase, the approved a plan to expand the 405. Now Caltrans, through the OCTA Board of Directors, is trying to take our Measure M funds and use taxpayer funds to build toll lanes on the 405.
Worse yet, the Caltrans proposal will have limited access toll lanes the 73 to the Los Angeles County line and will not have any other points of access in Costa Mesa. Local residents will not be able to use the lanes they’re paying for and commuters will not be able to stop at Costa Mesa destinations like South Coast Plaza or SOCO. This harm local businesses and reduce sales tax revenue for our city.
As Mayor of Costa Mesa, I have aggressively fought the OCTA and Caltrans proposal to use our money to build toll lanes on the 405. Through the Measure M sales tax increase, we’ve already paid for the 405 expansion. We shouldn’t have to pay for it twice.
